We kindly ask you to carefully read the following information:

This website uses its own cookies, as well as third-party cookies for providing visitors with the best browsing experience and services suited for each one`s needs and interests. In ”web 2.0”, cookies play an important role in facilitating the access and delivery of the multiple services used by the user, such as:

  • Personalizing certain settings, such as: the language in which a site is viewed, the currency for certain prices or tariffs, keeping the options for different products (sizes, other details, etc.) in the ”shopping cart” (accessing previous preferences by accessing the button ”back” and ”forward”);
  • Cookies provide valuable feedback to the sites` owners about the way in which their sites are used by the users so that they can make their sites more efficient and accessible for users;
  • Cookies allow multimedia or any other kind of applications from other sites to be included in a specific site, in order to create a more valuable, useful and pleasant browsing experience.

WHAT IS A” COOKIE”?

An ”Internet Cookie” (also called ”browser cookie” or ”HTTP cookie”, or simple ”cookie”) is a small file, consisting of letters and numbers, which will be stored on computer, mobile device or other devices of a user that accesses the Internet.

The cookie is installed by the solicitation issued by the web server of a browser (ex.: Internet Explorer, Chrome) and it is completely ”passive” (it does not contain any software programs, viruses or spyware and it cannot access the information from the user`s hard drive). A cookie consists of 2 parts: name and content or the cookie`s value. Furthermore, the lifespan of a cookie is determined. From a technical point of view, only the web server that sent the cookie can access it again when a user returns on the website associated to the respective web server. Cookies themselves do not ask for personal data in order to be used and, in most cases, do not personally identify the Internet users.

There are 2 main categories of cookies:

  • Session cookies – are stored temporarily in the web browser cookie folder so that it can remember them until the user exits the respective website or closes the browser window (ex.: while logging in/logging out from a webmail account or on social networks);
  • Persistent cookies – are stored on the hard drive of a computer or device (and, in general it depends on the specific lifespan pre-established for the cookie). Persistent cookies also include the ones placed by a different website than the one the user is visiting – known

as” third-party cookies” – which can be used anonymously to store the interests of a user so that relevant Internet ads can be shown to the user.

WHICH ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING COOKIES?

A cookie contains information that link a web browser (user) and a specific web server (website). If a browser access again that specific web server, it can read the already stored information and react in consequence. Cookies are designed to provide a pleasant browsing experience to users and support the efforts of many websites to provide comfortable services to users: ex.: Internet privacy preferences, options regarding the site language, shopping cart or relevant ads.

WHICH IS THE LIFESPAN OF A COOKIE?

Cookies are managed by web servers. The lifespan of a cookie can significantly vary, according to the placement purpose. Some cookies are used only for one session ( ”session cookies”) and are no longer stored once the user has left the website. Other cookies are stored and reused each time the user accesses the specific website ( ”persistent cookies”). Nonetheless, cookies can be deleted by a user in any time through the browser settings.

WHAT ARE THIRD-PARTY COOKIES?

Certain content sections from websites can be provided by third parties/suppliers (ex.: news box, a video or ad). These third parties can also place cookies through the website, and they are called” third-party cookies” because they are not placed by the owner of the respective website. Third parties must comply with the present law and the privacy policies of the website.

HOW IS THIS WEBSITE USING COOKIES?

A visit on this site can place cookies for:

  • Visitors’ analysis;
  • Geotargetting;
  • Recording;

These cookies may come from the following third parties: facebook.com, google.com and others.

Cookies for visitors’ analysis

This type of cookie stores the user preferences on this website, so that is no longer necessary to set them up at each website visit. Examples: the volume for video player; the video streaming speed with which the browser is compatible.

Each time a user visits this site, a third-party analytics application generates an analysis cookie for the user. This cookie tells us if you have visited this site before. The browser will tell us if you have this cookie, and if not, we will generate one. This allows the monitoring of the unique users who visit us and how often they do it. As long as you are not registered on this site, this cookie cannot be used to identify individual persons, they are only used for statistical purposes. If you are registered, we may also know the details you have provided us, such as your email address and username – these being subject to the confidentiality and provisions of the Terms and Conditions, respectively the Privacy Policy and also to the legislation in force with regard to the protection of the personal data.

Cookies for geotargeting

These cookies are used by a software that determines the country you come from. It is completely anonymous and is used only for targeting the content – even when you are on our webpage, being it in Romanian or English, you see the same ad.

Cookies for recording

When you sign up on this site, we generate a cookie that tells us if you are registered or not. Our servers use these cookies to show us the account with which you are registered and if you have the permission to a specific service

OTHER THIRD-PARTY COOKIES

On some pages, third parties may set their own anonymous cookies for tracking the success of an application or to customize an application. Because of the way this website is used, this site cannot access these third-party cookies, as well as these third parties cannot access the cookies owned by the site. For example, when you share an article using the social media button placed on this site, that specific social media will record your activity.

WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION IS STORED AND ACCESSED THROUGH COOKIES?

Cookies store information in a small text file which allows a website to recognize a browser. The web server will recognize the cookie until it expires or it is erased. Cookies store important information which enrich the Internet browsing experience (ex.: the language settings of a site, keeping a user logged in a webmail account, on-line banking security, keeping the products in the shopping cart).

WHY ARE COOKIES IMPORTANT FOR THE INTERNET?

Cookies are the central focus for efficient functioning of the Internet, helping to generate a friendly browsing experience, tailored to the preferences and interests of each user. Denying or disabling cookies can make some sites unusable.

Denying or disabling cookies does not mean you will not get online advertising – just that it will no longer be able to keep track of your preferences and interests highlighted by your browsing behaviour. Examples of important uses of cookies (which do not require authentication of a user through an account) are:

  • Content and services tailored to user’s preferences – news, weather, sports, maps, public and governmental services, entertainment sites and travel services;
  • Offers tailored to users’ interests – password retention, language preferences (for example: displaying search results in Romanian);
  • Retaining child protection filters for content on the Internet (family mode options, safe search functions);
  • Limit ad showing frequency – limit the number of impressions of an ad for a particular user on a site;
  • Providing relevant advertising for the user;
  • Measuring, optimizing and analytics characteristics – confirming a certain level of traffic on a website, the type of content viewed, how a user reaches a website (ex.: from search engines, directly, from other websites, etc.). Websites carry out these using analysis in order to improve the sites for the users benefit.

SECURITY AND PRIVACY ISSUES

Cookies are NOT Viruses. They use text formats. They are not made up of pieces of code, thus they cannot be executed. Consequently, they cannot duplicate or replicate on other computers or use networks to run or replicate again. Since they do not have these functionalities, they cannot be considered viruses. Cookies can still be used for negative purposes. Since they store information about preferences and user browsing history, on a specific website or multiple websites, cookies can be used as a form of Spyware. Many anti-spyware products are aware of this and consistently mark cookies to be deleted in anti-virus/anti-spyware removal/scanning procedures. In general, browsers have built-in privacy settings that provide different levels of cookie acceptance, shelf life, and automatic deletion after the user has visited a particular site.

OTHER SECURITY ISSUES RELATED TO COOKIES

Since identity protection is very valuable and it represents the right of each Internet user, it is advisable to know the issues that may be caused by cookies. Because there is a constant exchange of information between the browser and the web site through cookies, if an attacker or unauthorized person interferes with this process, the information contained in the cookie can be intercepted. Even if it rarely happens, this can happen if your internet connection is on an insecure network (such as an unencrypted wireless network). Other attacks on cookies may happen because of wrong setting of cookies on websites, attackers may use this vulnerability to deceive the browsers to send information through channels that are not secured. Attacker then use the information in order to have unauthorized access to certain sites. It is very important to be careful when choosing the most suited method for protecting your personal data.

ADVICE FOR A SECURE AND RESPONSIBLE INTERNET BROWSING, BASED ON COOKIES

Due to their flexibility and the fact that the majority of the largest and most visited sites use cookies, cookies are almost inevitable. Disabling cookies will no longer allow the user to access popular sites, such as YouTube, Gmail, Yahoo and others.

Here are some tips on browsing the Internet with no problems, with the support of cookies:

  • Customize your browser settings for cookies in order to reflect a comfortable level of cookie security;
  • If you do not mind cookies and you are the only person using the device, you can set long expiration dates to store your browsing history and personal data;
  • If you share your computer access, you can consider setting the browser to delete individual browsing data each time you close your browser. This is a way to access sites that place cookies and to delete any information related to them when the browser is closed;
  • Install and permanently update antivirus/antispyware applications.

Many of the detecting and preventing spyware applications include detecting site attacks. Thus, it does not allow the browser to access websites that may exploit the browser’s vulnerability or to download dangerous software. Keep your browser up to date. Many of the cookie attacks happen when exploiting the disadvantages of older versions of browsers. Cookies are everywhere and they cannot be avoided if you wish to access the most popular and largest Internet sites – local or international. Having a good understanding on the cookies’ way of functioning and their benefits, you can take the necessary security measures so that you can browse the Internet with confidence.

HOW CAN I STOP THE COOKIES?

Disabling and refusing to receive cookies may make some sites unusable or difficult to access. Furthermore, refusing to accept cookies does not mean that you will not receive/see online ads. It is possible to set up the browser to no longer accept advertising cookies or to accept cookies only from certain sites. But, if you did not register using cookies, you will not be able to leave comments. All modern browsers offer the possibility to change the browser’s settings. These settings are in general found in” Options” or in the browser’s” Preferences” menu. For a better understanding of these settings, the following links can be useful, so that you can use the browser’s” Help” option for further information:
